Be a part of West Milford history by helping to preserve West Milford History! Help us work together to preserve the Apple Acres Barn and Mill. Built in 1809, the Mill and the Barn have been and still are an important part of our community 200 years later. Six generations of the Terhune family have lived here and throughout those many years, they have been an important part of our growing community. Today, the remaining buildings of the farm serve as an important reminder of our agrarian and rural past, as well an important Sustainable West Milford Learning Center for our agrarian future, the West Milford Organic Community Garden and the award winning Ample Harvest program.
Community Barn Painting - at Apple Acres!
Lets take a step back in time to how important things used to get done - the community way! This will be a significant accomplishment and will require LOTS of volunteers - experienced and inexperienced! In fact, we'll be needing more than just painters - scaffolding, ladders, paint, painting equipment of all kinds - even a tree needs to be taken down! We'll also need help with the cooking, and feeding of the crews, entertaining, cheerleading, prepping the buildings for painting, and probably a million other jobs we haven't thought of yet.
The buildings are badly in need of paint and some repairs and risk further damage without some immediate preservation efforts. Many things have worth beyond their value in dollars and cents, and this is one of them. It gives us all memories and reminders of the past, hopes for a brighter future, a wonderful sense of comfort and a source of food for those in need right now. Priceless? Absolutely - so come join us as one of the "truly wealthy" and give of your time and TLC to make it all possible! This is really going to be fun and the results will be Priceless to say the least!
