Greetings!
Sustainable West Milford is very excited to be sponsoring West Milford's first annual Pizza Tasting Contest on Sunday, July 22 from 3-5pm at the WM Presbyterian Church in the Fellowship Hall. This is our first fundraiser and we want as many local businesses to benefit as possible. We currently have six Professional Pizza makers signed up to participate and we hope to have 2 more by the end of the week.
There will be many winners in a variety of categories with voting by local residents, and raffle prizes for those that attend. There are 7 local businesses that are donating products and services and more jumping in every day. The event will be fun, festive and is intended to help promote our pizza places and our local businesses during the sometimes slow summer months.
In addition to awards in the Professional Pizza category, residents are also encouraged to submit their home made pies to compete in their own category (they can submit their entries on our website at www.sustainablewestmilford.org). There will also be a 'blind taste test' table during the event to see who wins when we don't know who is supplying the pizza!
Our local pizzerias will be donating 10-20 plain pies over a 2 hour period and our goal is to have at least 400 local participants. The pizzerias will be encouraging their customers to come vote for their pizza at the event. Numbered tickets will be sold in advance for $5 each ($6 at the door).
To be fair, the contest will be based on plain pizza, but some pizza places will also showcase their specialty for feedback and marketing purposes. In addition, we will have a category for homemade pizza (1-2 pizza’s each) which will be judged separately.
Demarco's Pizza has arranged for Coca Cola to donate drinks (soda, water, juice) for the event, West Milford Party Store is donating steamers and balloons for decorations, and 'Flags & Silver/That Special Gift' has donated a huge pizza flag to put up on the wall for the event.
We plan to have entertainment (music, awards ceremony, MC) and a variety of information available about how residents can contribute towards our town's sustainability.
