On June 9, 2007, after three intense weeks of incredibly hard work, Sustainable West Milford had its Community Garden Grand Opening!  The morning was beautiful and sunny as members of the community gathered to celebrate.

Local farmers sold strawberries, eggs, seedlings, seed potatoes and other farm stand wares.  Garden members brought pot luck snacks to share and Sally & John from Harvest Moon donated organic refreshments for all to enjoy.

Garden members and visitors gathered to listen to the opening words.  Garden director, Katie Hayes-Natale, addressed the group giving many thanks to Anne Thornton for donating the land and to all of the volunteers who helped make the Community Garden possible.

Garden member Jill Michel played the crystal bowls to help clear the energy and restore a sense of balance at the Community Garden.

Seedlings were planted and watered.  Members mingled to meet their new neighbors and discuss gardening techniques & ideas.

While some gardeners planted their plots other community members helped out by put up the fence.  The cross beams for the fence were salvaged from a torn down deck.  The posts and wire fencing were purchased with money that was donated.
