Time Bank Current Happenings
Eat Local of Ringwood has joined the Time Bank as the newest organizational member, and two other groups have expressed interest in our time bank as well.
Some of the activities planned for April are participation in the West Milford Beautification Day on Saturday, April 21, the Medicinal Garden workday on Sunday, April 22 and the Herbal Medicine class with Robin Rose Bennett on Wednesday, April 25.
Awareness about time banking is growing and you'll find a short profile about the West Milford Time Bank in Dirt magazine.
SWM and the West Milford Time Bank recently hosted staff from the town of Secaucus to share our sustainability journey.
Tim Dalton and Dave Watson-Hallowell met with 4 representatives from Secaucus to talk about time banking and all the things SWM does to make our community a more sustainable one. Christine Smith from the Health Department explained the reason for their visit. Apparently the Mayor of Secaucus read an article on Time Banking in AARP and asked the group to investigate. West Milford has the only operating time bank in New Jersey so they got in touch with Tim. Tim hosted the meeting which also included the towns' Director of Community and Senior Services and the Chair of their Environmental Committee.
After an hour of questions and answers the group visited our Native Plants Medicinal Garden and the Organic Community Garden to see for themselves. They were very impressed with our efforts and asked for help in bringing the gardens, Time Bank and Farmers Market to their community. We were impressed with their passion, courage (Tim sent them on Clinton Road to give them a feel for the area!) and the way they just took action. We look forward to working with them in the future!
Earn Time Dollars and help build the Time Bank
We are also opening up other projects of Sustainable West Milford for time dollar credits. If you help with maintenance or serve on the committees of either of the gardens (Community or Medicinal), the Farmers’ Market, Newsletter or Website maintenance, you are entitled to log hours for your efforts.
